He married Grace Luella Townsend on 17 Dec 1902 in Orange Township, Ionia County, MI. She out-lived him and later remarried.

When Earl took ill with meningitis, they were living in the village of Muir, Ionia County, MI. However, he died at Blodgett Memorial Hospital in East Grand Rapids, MI. He was buried on 19 Oct 1929 in Balcom Cemetery in Berlin Center, Ionia County, MI.
