Robert L. Bellis, age 92, of 2130 Harrison, formerly of 2625 Woodale Ct., died Thursday (May 16, 2013) at 11:05 am in Good Samaritan Home.
Robert Bellis | Hansen-Spear Funeral Home - Quincy, ILHe was born December 22, 1920 in Enid, OK the son of Joseph and Eathel Hiett Bellis. On June 24, 1950 he married Dorothy Mae Larimore in Payson, IL. She preceded him in death January 25, 2011.
He graduated from Monmouth High School and attended Monmouth College for 2 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 – 1946 and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Mr. Bellis was a manager at Bowman Shoe Company for 42 years.
He was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church, Rotary, Kiwanis, and the Elks Lodge. He was a musician who played for 15 years in the Heidelburg German Band and for 17 years on the Mark Twain Riverboat Dinner Cruises. One of his favorite hobbies was oil-painting.
Survivors include: a daughter, Kathy Galvan of Albuquerque, NM; 3 sons, Phil (Pamela) Bellis, Dave (Carri) Bellis, of Quincy,and Grant (Nancy) Bellis, of Bloomington, IL; 11 grandchildren, Gabe and Granger Galvan; Emily, Elaina, Olivia and Avery Bellis; Drake, Eric and Chloe Bellis, and J.R. and Wrigley Bellis; a sister, Shirley Dillon of Quincy. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Elizabeth McMahon, and Lula Mulane, a brother, Lindel Bellis, a brother-in-law George Dillon, a daughter-in-law, Anita Bellis, and a granddaughter Christy Bangert.
Services: 11:00 am Wednesday (May 22, 2013) at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Disseler officiating.
Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 pm Tuesday (May 21, 2013) at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois

Dorothy Mae Bellis, 87, of 2130 Harrison, formerly of 2625 Woodale Court, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2011) in the Good Samaritan Home.
She was born May 22, 1923, in Plainville, a daughter of William R. and Martha C. Bock Larimore. On June 24, 1951, she married Robert Bellis in Payson. He survives.
She was a graduate of Payson High School. She attended Western Illinois State Teachers College and the University of Illinois. As a teacher, she worked in Adams County, Henderson County and Quincy. She later worked in real estate and then in retail.
She was a member of the Vermont Street United Methodist Church and former member of Altrusa. Dorothy was very active in her community as a PTA member, in the Boy Scouts of America, Beta Sigma Phi and the Plainville 4-H Club.
Survivors in addition to her husband include, a daughter, Kathy Galvan of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sons, Phil Bellis and his wife, Pam, Dave Bellis and his wife, Carri, both of Quincy and Grant Bellis and his wife, Nancy, of Heyworth; 11 grandchildren, Gabriel and Granger Galvan, Emily, Elaina, Olivia and Avery Bellis, Drake, Eric and Chloe Bellis, and J.R. and Wrigley Bellis; one sister, Caroline Larimore of California; a brother, Larry Larimore of Kentucky; two brothers-in-law, Charles Jackson and Red Ruyle; two sisters-in-law, Guyeula Larimore and Pat Larimore; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ray Loyal Larimore; two sisters, Neva Lou Ruyle and Gloria Jackson; a daughter-in-law, Anita Bellis; and a granddaughter, Christy Bangert.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday celebration of life service will be in Vermont Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Disseler and the Rev. Scott Grulke conducting. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
