Evadna Maxine Cooper, 85-years-old, died on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at her home in Irving, TX, with her beloved children nearby after a brief struggle with an aggressive ovarian cancer. In 2006, Maxine was an inspiration to all her knew her as her unwavering faith in God, indomitable will to live and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through a successful fight with an aggressive breast cancer.
Maxine was born on August 28, 1930, in Cassville, Missouri to Roy and Josephine Beeson, one of fourteen children. Perhaps that explained her contagious smile and sense of humor that came through when she was calmly leading a kitchen full of family members trying to help her prepare one of her famous holiday meals. It also came through brilliantly when leading her large extended family on their trek through Alaska and the Yukon Territory for her 85th birthday.
Throughout her long life Maxine maintained an honest and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of those who knew her. It was a gift of hers that will continue to shape the lives of her family and friends, all of whom will continue to learn when they recall her abiding grace and constantly nurturing faith. Hers was a constant and comforting smile, a contagious laugh and above all a heart overflowing with grace.
Married to her now deceased husband Robert for more than 30 years, they started and successfully managed two small businesses, and were widely known among avid and competitive domino players in the North Texas area. They were devout and active members of the United Methodist church.
In her later years, Maxine loved to travel, and notably led her children and their families on various trips, including treks to Hawaii, Mexico, Canada and Europe. She never passed up trying new things, including zip-lining at several locations. Where she traveled, Maxine left behind smiles, good humor and perhaps most importantly, the sense that one had been in the presence of a truly magnificent example of God’s child.
After Robert and Maxine married she was mother to a blended family of four daughters and one son. Patricia Fortner, Mike and Mary Eshenour, Paulette and Joe Huertas, Kay Cooper and Sue and Kenneth Hildebrand,
Grandmother to Deidre and Dan Imthurn, Jon and Leslie Fortner, Sancy Eshenour, Alice and Brian Aucoin and beloved great grandmother, sister, aunt, and great aunt to many.
There will be a visitation and a Memorial Service at Kirkwood United Methodist Church, 2232 W. 5th St., Irving, TX, 75060 on Thursday August 4th. The visitation will be from Noon to 2:00 pm with the memorial service immediately following. A brief graveside service will be held graveside on Friday August 5th at 11:00 am in Vernon, TX.
