Edna Meryl Painter, age 88, of Cassville, MO, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at her home after a day of music, friends, and family.

She was born at the homestead in Cassville on February 6, 1931, the daughter of William “Bill” and Myra Willard Smalley. She was united in marriage to Cleo Beeson, who passed away in 1956. Later she married Olen Painter, with whom she raised children and cattle until he passed away in 1993. Today she is singing in heaven with her parents and older sister, Cleo House.

Surviving are one son, Allen Beeson and his wife Stella of Pensacola, FL; three daughters: Cheryl Beeson of High Point, NC, Roberta Painter of Shallotte, NC and LaDon Vanzant and her husband Danny of Cassville, MO. On August 5, she was surrounded by her five grandchildren: Zach Beeson (wife Melody), Walter Beeson, Taylor Vanzant, Lacey Treadway, and Will Metz.

Edna grew up and graduated from high school in Cassville. She worked at the Barry County Courthouse before beginning her long career as the secretary to the superintendent of Cassville R-IV Schools. She was known for her record-setting (over 100 wpm) error-free typing skills, having typed numerous dissertations. She also worked for several years at Able 2 Products, helping it grow from its meager beginnings to the successful industry it became. For many years she enjoyed raising beef cattle on the farm she built with Olen. Some of her favorite things to do were traveling to North Carolina to see her family, watching her grandson Taylor play golf, visiting her friends at the Senior Center and singing in the choir at Cassville’s First Baptist Church. Her story is included in Volume 8 of “Lifetimes of Memories, Voices of Barry County.”

Graveside services were held on Thursday, August 8, 2019. Pastor James Weaver and Reverend Don Beeson conducted the services. Burial at Corinth Cemetery in Cassville.

Contributions may be made to Cassville Senior Center, 1111 Fair Street, Cassville, MO 65625 in memory of Edna.
