Wilbur M. Baskin, 84, loving and devoted husband and father, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at his residence, 4484 Clarkstown Road, Muncy.

Born in Shamokin on June 12, 1922, he was the son of George and Eva (Brombach) Baskin.

He and his wife of 62 years, the former Irene L. Opp, were married Jan. 31, 1945.

A 1941 graduate of Milton High School, Wilbur also graduated from the former Williamsport Technical Institute. In 1942 Wilbur enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal after serving four years during World War II. For 18 months he was stationed in Pacific New Guinea, Shutten Island, Bismarck, Archipelgo and the Philipines.

Wilbur worked as a foreman at Koppers (now Andritz) in Muncy for thirty years, retiring in 1982, and was a member of Sprout's Quarter Century Club.

He was actively involved with Muncy's Son Light House for 24 years, and was the coordinator of activities and events there for the last 10 years. He was a member of both the Muncy Lodge #299, F&AM, and the Williamsport Consistory for over 50 years. Wilbur enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was the last surviving charter member of the Oaks Hunting Club. He loved to cook, especially for area organizations and events.

Wilbur was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Clarkstown for over 60 years and served on church council for many years.

In addition to his wife, Irene, he is survived by one son, Philip (Kathy) Baskin of Altoona; one daughter, Hollie (Larry) Manwiller of Womelsdorf; five grandchildren, Joseph, Sarah, Joshua, Michael and Jacob; and two great-granddaughters.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ellen.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wed., April 11, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2041 Route 442, Clarkstown. Officiating will be his pastor, Rev. Carla Volland. Burial with full military honors will be held in Muncy Cemetery.

Friends will be received at Grenoble's, 121 S. Main St., on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Wednesday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. A masonic service will be held at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday night at the funeral home.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 48 Second Ave., Muncy, PA 17756.

Irene L. Baskin, 86, formerly of 4484 Clarkstown Road, Muncy, died Friday, November 30, 2007 at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born September 28, 1921 in Muncy Creek Twp., she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Hazel (McCarty) Opp.

She and her husband of 62 years, Wilbur M. Baskin, were married on January 31, 1945 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Clarkstown. Wilbur died April 7, 2007.

A 1940 graduate of Muncy High School, Irene then graduated from the Muncy Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. For nine years she worked for State Nursing Service and then for several area hospitals and nursing homes. She retired in 1984 from Leader Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, now Manor Care.

Irene was a lifetime member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was very active in church activities, including singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and serving as President of the Ladies Aid Society for several years. In addition, she volunteered her help to the Brownies and the Girl Scouts.

Irene enjoyed quilting, fishing, traveling and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Kathy Baskin of Altoona; one daughter and son-in-law, Hollie and Larry Manwiller of Womelsdorf; one sister and brother-in-law, Finley and Clair Stahl of Muncy; five grandchildren, Joseph, Sarah, Joshua, Michael and Jacob; and two great-granddaughters.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 3, at her church, Messiah Lutheran Church in Clarkstown. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Carla Volland. Burial will be in Muncy Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the church from noon until 2 p.m. on Monday.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 48 Second Ave., Muncy, PA 17756.

Arrangements are being handled by Grenoble's, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
