Norman Lee McMains, Jr., 90, passed away August 16, 2007 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 27, 1916 in Kansas City, MO to Norman L. McMains, Sr. and Eleanor Grow McMains.
Norm graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1937. He enlisted in the United States Air Force-Army on July 30, 1941 serving as a photographer that detailed the bombing of Saipan. Norm worked with HQ SQ 498 Bomb Group GP with specialty in Intelligence S pet 631. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant having served in the battles of Eastern Mandates, Western Pacific Air Defense, Japan. He received decorations and citations including the American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, 2 Overseas Service Bars, 1 Service Stripe and the Good Conduct Medal.
Norm was a well-known businessman in the Terre Haute area, having founded Culligan Soft Water Service Company on N. 7th St. His interests included finances, reading, traveling in his and Maxine's Winnebago Motor Home, model trains, music and cruising the Ohio River at Madison, Indiana. Norman was a member and had served as Sec/Tres for the Terre Haute Aero Club #826 from 1966-1982.
Survivors include his two sons, Joel McMains of Terre Haute and Norman Lee "Pete" McMains III of Travers, MI; and a grandson, Norman L. McMains IV. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
Memorial graveside services for Norman Lee McMains Jr., and wife, Maxine Barnett McMains of Terre Haute will be conducted at 2 o'clock pm, Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Veteran's Section of Roselawn Memorial Park by the V.F.W. Post #972. Cremation was chosen with military rites given at this time.

Maxine, 92 years, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in Meadows Manor North. She was born July 26, 1924 in Terre Haute to Lucinda "Lucy" Fiscus Barnett and Orville "Barney" Lewis Barnett.
She attended Wiley High School and received additional education from art schools in Paris, IL., St. Louis, MO., Anderson College and John Herron Art Institute of Indianapolis. She also attended Ringling School of Art, Sarasota, FL, Gladys Galloway Studio of Caro, MI and in England. Her education eventually allowed her to earn her license for the World China Painting Association.
Maxine was the owner and instructor of Maxine McMain's China Supply Company located at 1700 S. 25th St. in Terre Haute. In addition to her art career, Maxine and her husband, Norman, owned and operated Culligan Soft Water Service of Terre Haute.
Maxine was active in the March of Dimes having served as a board member and enjoyed tennis where she traveled to Wimbledon several times, reading, gardening, crocheting, traveling and teaching the art of porcelain painting.
Maxine is survived by her brother, Orville "Bud" Barnett and his wife, Geraldine, of Clinton, IN: two step-sons, Joel McMains of Terre Haute and Norman Lee "Pete" McMains of Travers, MI; sister-in-law, Kanova Barnett of Brazil, IN; special life long friends, Annabelle Plenge and Vivian Canatsey, both of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; and brothers, K. Richard "Dick" Barnett and William "Bill" Barnett.
Memorial Graveside Services for Norman Lee McMains, Jr. and Maxine Barnett McMains of Terre Haute will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Veteran's Section of Roselawn Memorial Park by the V.F.W. Post #972. Cremation was chosen prior to interment.
