Betty Jean Barnett

Funeral services for Betty Jean Barnett of El Reno were held Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at First Christian Church with Rev. Ronnie Fields officiating the ceremony, and an eulogy given by her granddaughter, Chelsea Barnett. Interment was in the El Reno Cemetery. Services were under direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Barnett passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning in the OU Medical Center Presbyterian Towers in Oklahoma City, with her family by her side. She was born Dec. 10, 1934, in Quincy, Ill. Betty grew up on the Alcatraz Island where her father worked as a guard, and where she met and married Richard (Dick) Barnett, who was also a guard there. They raised their children on the island until Alcatraz closed and then moved to El Reno in 1963. She was a homemaker and had worked as a manager at Wal-Mart in the fabric department. Betty also did baby-sitting, worked with the Canadian County Election Board and was a Russell-Murray Hospice volunteer. She had attended First Christian Church, First Baptist Church and First Free Will Baptist Church.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie (Peters) Hart; husband, Richard "Dick" Barnett; son, Mark Richard Barnett; two brothers, Bob Hart and Bill Hart; and a sister, Barbara Catelli.

Survivors include her son, Dr. David Barnett, DVM, and wife, Delinda of Okarche; daughter, Cindy Barnett of El Reno; brother, Bud Hart and wife, Mary of Sebastopol, Calif.; five grandchildren, Christina Ketter and husband, Travis, Jessica Huff and husband, Jon, Talen Hobson and wife, Ashley, Chelsea Barnett and Joe Barnett; three great-grandchildren, Emma Ketter, Halle Ketter and Crosby Ketter; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
