Joe Daniel "Big Joe" Cass, 82, formerly of 214 W. Oak St., died at 4:15 a.m. Friday April 3, 2009, at Eastgate Manor.

Born Aug. 26, 1926, in Pleasantville, he was the son of Clyde Dean and Bessie (Jackson) Cass.

He attended Pleasantville High School and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a retired truck driver for NSWC Crane, working there for 30 years.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Dale Chambers of Elnora; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Ruth Yancy Cass of Washington; two grandchildren, Todd Chambers of Plainville and Samatha Chambers of Elnora; two great-grandchildren, Tayla and Avery Chambers; sisters and brothers-in-law Gayle and George Clark of Pleasantville and Doris and Ed Harris of Sanford, N.C.; and a brother, Glenn Cass of Terre Haute.

His wife, Clara Lou (Baker) Cass, whom he married Jan. 24, 1947, died Nov. 15, 2008. A son, David Cass; and brothers Don, Max and Lex Cass, are also deceased.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gill Chapel with the Rev. James Downs officiating. Entombment will be at Sugarland Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The American Legion and V.F.W. will present the flag and sound "Taps" at graveside. Visitation is after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
