Chester W. Bailey, 91, son of James and Mary Lavena Brown Bailey, was born Oct. 16, 1905, at Eunice. He died Nov. 11, 1996, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. Mr. Bailey served in the Army from April to October 1941 and was recalled to active duty in January 1942, serving until August 1943. He received service medals while in the 8th Ordnance Co., attaining the rank of Sergeant He married Omega Foulk Bailey May 14, 1944. They moved to Wilmington, IL., in 1946, where he worked at Joliet Arsenal for the U.S. government as a mechanic. He was maintenance foreman before he retired. The Baileys moved to Raymondville in 1984. During the last five years, Mr. Bailey was a resident of the Houston Senior Housing. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna and Pauline; and a brother, Carmie. Surviving are three brothers, Everett Bailey of St. Louis; George, Utah, Lester Bailey of Plato and Walter Bailey of Lebanon; six sisters, Myrtle Cornelison and Maxine Gregory of Lebanon, Blanche Barnes and Lorene Halstead of Summersville and Loretha Hubbs and Reva Lanning of St. Louis. Services were Nov. 14 at the Eunice Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Jackson officiating. Burial was in the Union Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston.

Omega Foulk Bailey, 87, daughter of Lloyd and Alice Edwards Foulk, was born Aug. 1, 1905, at Summersville. She died May 31. 1993, at Texas County Memorial Hospital. She received a teaching degree from Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield and attended college in Denver, Colo., receiving her master's degree. She taught locally at three schools before moving to Illinois and continuing as a teacher. She married Chester W. Bailey May 14, 1944. They moved to Wilmington, IL., in 1946, and she taught a variety of high school courses: typing, shorthand, business, history and home economics. She retired in 1972 after 45 years and received the outstanding teacher recognition and achievement awards. The Baileys moved to Raymondville in 1984. She became a resident at Houston House about a year ago. She was preceded in death by seven sisters and two
brothers. Surviving are her husband, Chester W. Bailey of Houston; and two sisters, Aleda Creek of Raymondville and Ruth Wuertley of Summersville. Services were June 2 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Albert Steelman officiating. Burial was in the Union Chapel Cemetery.
