Note: Carl gives spelling of last name for all members of this family as Woolverton, vs. David Macdonald's Wolverton.

In 'The Wolverton Family - 1693-1850 and Beyond' (page 597), it is assumed that Samual born 1837 was the son of Thomas Woolverton and Phoebe Scott based on the 1850 census. The comment that "he seems to have died young , as in a letter dated 4 April 1917, N. Woolverton reported that Mary L. (Worden) Woolverton, --- had named as children of Thomas only Henry, Kitty, Elizabeth", is added as a comment. The fact that James Barton Woolverton age 66 and Samuel Woolverton age 12 were included in the 1850 census of the Thomas household, but not in later census reports, suggests that they were both visitors. The logical conclusion is that there was only one Samuel Woolverton born in 1837. He was the son of James Barton Woolverton as shown in the 1840 and 1850 census and confirmed by a documented interview with Samuel's 89 year old wife Mary L Worden Woolverton (page 246).
