MRS. DORA E. WYATT
Dora Etta Wyatt, daughter of John and Rebecca Wolverton, was born in Decatur county, Iowa, on May 4, 1856, and passed from this life at her home in Derby, Iowa, on December 28, 1941, at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 24 days.
She was one of a family of six children. Two sisters, Margaret Jane and Louise, and two brothers, Samuel Byron and Walter P., preceded her to the heavenly home. One brother, John K., is a resident of Derby.
Her parents came to Iowa from Ohio in 1853 and were two of Iowa's most industrious early settlers. Her early girlhood was spent on a farm in Decatur county near Garden Grove. Then the family moved to a farm north of Leroy where she resided until her marriage to Jacob Bunion Wyatt at Osceola on Jan. 1, 1874. To this union were born two sons, Fred C., of Derby, and Ernest O., of Hood River, Oregon.
Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt spent the early years of their married life upon their farm in the southwest part of Lucas county, then in the year of 1892 moved to Derby, which place has since continued to be her home.
Few people have been residents of the vicinity who have not learned to know the kindly smile and benevolent spirit of this worthy woman. She was always interested in the activites of the community and every willing to assume her share of its responsibilities. This has been particularly true in regard to church fellowship. To all she has generously assisted while remaining a loyal member of the Last Chance church, which she joined in her early teens.
She has been "Aunt Dora" to many more than her actual nieces and nephews and in the hearts of all there will ever linger the memory of a life well spent.
She has been a devoted mother to her children, Fred and Ernest, and the grandchildren, Mrs. Marie Krekow, of Abilene, Texas; Dwight Wyatt, of Derby; and Elizabeth Wyatt, of Arcadia, California. There are two great grandchildren, Mary Ellen and Edwin Krekow.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Harry R. Osborne, of Chariton, were held Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 20, at the Last Chance church, and burial was in the Last Chance cemetery.
