World War II Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He was a Technician Grade Five in the United States Army in the Medical Detachment, 328th Infantry, 26th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on November 8, 1944 near Bezange la Petite, France. He was killed in action. His citation in part reads "In spite of great pain and loss of blood, he continued to administer first aid until he was too weak to stand. Crawling from one patient to another, he continued his work until excessive loss of blood prevented him from moving. He then verbally directed unskilled enlisted men in continuing the first aid for the wounded. Still refusing assistance himself, he remained to instruct others in dressing the wounds of his comrades until he was unable to speak above a whisper and finally lapsed into unconsciusness. The efects of his injury later caused his death. By steadfastly remaining at the scene without regard for his own safety, Cpl WIlson through distinguished devotion to duty and personal sacrifice helped to save the lives of at least 10 wounded men."

"Alfred was a very large man, the second of ten children born to Jesse and Matilda Wilson. He has been described as "The Gentle Giant" in a book of that same title, published by one of his nieces, Carolyn McKinney. Alfred was killed in the Second World War in France. He was a conscientious objector and refused to carry a weapon for religious reasons. Thus he served as a medic and became one of very few who were awarded the Medal of Honor as a medic. He died saving the lives of several of his fellow soldiers. His body was returned to the states for burial in his home town of Fairchance, Pennsylvania.
