William Clarence Wolverton's birth record is entered in Vol. 27, page 202 of Limestone County birth records.

William Clarence (W.C.) and his two younger sisters Cora and Ida were orphaned in 1875 when both parents died...likely of influenza. These three orphans were taken in by their uncle Mack C. Wolverton and raised as his own children.

William C. (age 12) was listed in Vol 22, Ed 95, Sh 17, Line 4 of 1880 US Census for Pct 4, Limestone County, Texas along with and sisters Ada (age 8) and Ida (age 5) living with their uncle and aunt, M. C. and Winnette Wolverton.

In 1981, Cora and Ida died within three months of each other leaving William Clarence the sole survivor of his parents family.

W.C. married Elizabeth Lauhon ALFORD on June 9, 1889. Twins were born to W. C. and Elizabeth on April 25, 1904. One was listed as unnamed (likely deceased) and the second was named Martha Margrete. (recorded in Limestone County birth records)

Will, as William Clarence Wolverton was called, moved to Horn Hill in Limestone County several years after his marriage to Elizabeth Alford. About 1900, they moved into Groesbeck. Will was a farmer and owner-manager of cotton gins for over fifty years. He was a Methodist, Mason and a Shriner. In 1947, he was awarded the fifty year Mason Gold Button. He spent his entire life in Limestone County.

Sometime in the 1940's, Will took a #2 pencil in hand and documented his grandfather Tilman Wolverton's descendants up to that time. He is also responsible for writing the story about John Franks, the Old Sea Pirate, to whom Tilman traded a yoke of oxen for his dugout shelter in 1843.

(As of March 2001, a copy of Will's original handwritten document was in the archive files of this researcher, William D. Gorman. Note that Will's stepfather and uncle, Mack C. Wolverton was my gg-grandfather).
