Nellie A. Vastine, 92, formerly of Danville, died on Saturday, May 24, 2014, following a brief illness.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1921, in Watsontown, the daughter of William F. Ungard Jr. and Anna C. (Troxell) Ungard.

Nellie lived in the Danville area most of her life, graduating from Danville High School. She later attended Bloomsburg State Teachers College. Nellie has lived in Chittenango, N.Y., with her daughter, for the last five years.

She retired from the Danville Area School District, after working there for more than 20 years.

Nellie enjoyed talking with her friends and family. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and was a Jimmie Johnson fan.

She was a lifetime member of Grove Presbyterian Church in Danville.

Nellie married Edwin M. Vastine in 1942, in Lewisburg. Ed died in 1968.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, George and Linda Vastine, of Millville; a daughter and son-in-law, Sallie and David Acton, of Chittenango, N.Y.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: June Bell of Danville; Shirley and Samuel Belle of Williamsport; and Margaret and Charles Walker of Picture Rocks; five grandchildren: Christine Wolfe; Pollyanna Neuhard; Brion Acton; Garth Acton; and Luke Vastine; two great-grandchildren: Jacquelin Neuhard; and Harlyn Vastine; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nellie was predeceased by her adoptive parents, Albert G. Deily and Erma (Troxell) Deily); a son, Hugh H. Vastine; a grandson, Seth Vastine; a great-grandson, Shane Acton; four brothers; and a sister.

Memorial services will be held noon Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Grove Presbyterian Church, 330-332 Bloom St., Danville. The Rev. Robert J. Andrews, pastor, will officiate. Private burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville. At Nellie's request, there will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota, NY. In her memory, contributions may be made to Grove Presbyterian Church, 330-332 Bloom St., Danville, PA 17821.
