BIRMINGHAM – Andy J. Wolverton, 89, died Tuesday at his home.
The funeral will be Friday at noon at Bevills Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Benny Berry officiating.
Burial will be in Bevills Chapel Cemetery with Gallant Funeral Home in Hazel Green in charge.
Mr. Wolverton worked for Neuhoff Packing Co. in Nashville before retiring.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Stewart Wolverton; one daughter, Montrew Carol Johnson of Alpharetta, Ga.; three sons, Jerry Carl Wolverton of Franklin, Tenn., Frank Doyle Wolverton of Panama City, Fla., and Calvin Stuart Wolverton of Trussville; one brother, William Wolverton of Flint, Mich.; and eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
His body will be at the church two hours before the funeral.

Ruby D. Stewart Wolverton went to be with the Lord Friday at the age of 91. She was a resident of the Cumming Nursing Center in Cumming, Ga., at the time of her death. Born Oct. 9, 1915, in Madison County. She was the daughter of Luther and Annie Norris Stewart. Mrs. Wolverton was a longtime member of Bevill's Chapel Baptist Church in Hazel Green. A former resident of Hazel Green, she had previously lived in Nashville, where she was an employee of Baptist Hospital and Sears-Roebuck Co. Her family will remember her most as a loving mother and homemaker. Mrs. Wolverton was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Andy J. Wolverton, who died in 2001; as well as sisters, Mildred Gautney, Kitty Pearl Lanier, Inez Stephens and Mabel Stewart; and an infant brother. She is survived by four children, Jerry Carl Wolverton and wife, Janis, of Franklin, Tenn., Montrew Carol Wolverton Johnson and husband, Clinton, of Milton, Ga., Frank Doyle Wolverton and wife, Barbara, of Panama. City, Fla., and Calvin Stuart Wolverton and wife, Roselyn, of Trussville; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hazel Green Funeral Home, 13921 U.S. Highway 231/431 North, Hazel Green, AL. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Bevill's Chapel Baptist Church, 592 Bevill's Church Road, Hazel Green.
