Ruth E. (Starr) Stepp, 85, of Russellton, West Deer Township, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, with her family by her side. She has lived in West Deer for the past 62 years. Born Dec. 8, 1930, in Pittsburgh, to the late George T. and Hazel M. (Stephens) Starr, she was a 1948 graduate of Verona High School, and attended the New Kensington School of Business in 1981 for certification as a medical stenographer. Ruth was a ceramics teacher and owner of Ruth's Ceramics for more than 35 years. She loved teaching ceramics and had up to 60 students/friends weekly at the peak of her business. She was a member of the West Deer Travels Club and TOPS club in Creighton. She enjoyed painting ceramics, traveling, reading, football, and especially, spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her children, William J. (Susan) Stepp, of Fort Lauderdale Fla., Denise E. (Richard) Winter, of West Deer, and Bruce K. Stepp, of West Deer; five grandchildren, Jamie and Billy Stepp, Jessica Winter-Franklin, Richard S. Winter, Jr., and Sarah Winter; and two great-grandchildren, William Stepp IV and Lillian Grace Parades; and her sister, Hazel (Tootie) Maiolo, of Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Stepp; her sister, Helen Vinansky; and her brothers, Joseph Pollock and Wesley Starr.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer, where a funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. James Ramsey officiating. She will be privately laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Indiana Township.
