Suzanne Vastine-Smith, age 63, of 1010 Ave. F, Riverside, passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2006.

She was born Dec. 22, 1942, in Bloomsburg, the daughter of the late Hugh H. and Marcella (Sholter) Vastine. She was a 1960 graduate of Danville High School and graduated from Bloomsburg University with a degree in political science. Suzanne was a prothonotary and clerk of courts for over 20 years in Northumberland County. She was re-elected to that office in November 2005.

Suzanne was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; President of Mount Vernon Cemetery Association in Riverside; past member of the Danville School Board; and was active in Republican politics. She worked in the campaigns of Governor Tom Ridge, U.S. Senator John Heinz, state Senator John Gordner and Judge Charles Saylor.

Suzanne is survived by a son, Douglas V. Smith, and his wife, LIdia, Perkasie; a daughter, Vanessa Vastine Smith, of Glen Mills; two grandhildren: Peyton Elizabeth and Alexander Douglas; two sisters: Jane Williams and her husband, Barry, also of Cumberland, Md.; two brothers: James S. Vastine and his wife, Tillie, Macungie; Jon W. Vastine and his wife, Jean, Danville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh H. Vastine.

Burial was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville, with the Rev. Al Lumpkin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, for those wishing, memorlal contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701; Sisters of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, 580 Railroad St., Danville, PA 17821; or Villa Sacred Heart Music Conservatory, Railroad Street, Danville, PA 17821.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Allen Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Bloomsburg."
