Newt was born in Newton County, Arkansas and moved with his family to Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory in the early 1890s. He was the son of James Monroe Flippo and Sarah Jane Casey. He was the grandson of William Haywood Flippo and Mary Elizabeth Simmons and Levi Newton Casey and Mary Elizabeth V. Davis. He married Effie Rudie Abshier 10 October 1912 in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma Newt and Rudie were the parents of 2 daughters.
