PAXINOS — Harry J. Shuman, 81, of 471 Badman's Hill Road, died at home Friday, March 14, 2014, after suddenly being stricken ill.

He was born in Shamokin, April 16, 1932, a son of the late Robert J. and Ruby Mae (Landau) Shuman.

Harry graduated in 1951 from Coal Township High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On Jan. 2, 1952, in Ash Grove United Methodist Church, Paxinos, he married the former Phyllis Louise Yocum, who died March 28, 1987.

He worked at the Odd Fellows Cemetery and last worked as a lineman technician for Service Electric.

He was a member of Ash Grove United Methodist Church, of which he was an ardent supporter for more than 60 years. He also was a longtime supporter of the Shamokin Area High School band and the school district's music department.

Surviving are sons and a daughter, Daniel Shuman, of Paxinos, Mark Shuman and his wife, Sherry, of Coal Township, Bartholomew Shuman and his wife, Lois, of Stonington, Seth Shuman and his wife, Sandy, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Hannah Williams and her husband, Dr. Llewellyn Williams, of Las Cruces, N.M., as well as a sister, Ruby Ann Burt, of Connecticut. A brother, Gene Shuman, preceded him in death.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Emily Mae and Julianna Shuman, Autumn Marie Szep, Hailee Marie Shuman, Shana Rene Veal, Michael, John, Christine and James Shaver, James Daniel Hess, Christopher Allen Trate, and Betty Williams, and two great-grandchildren, Lindsy and Gibson Szep.

Funeral service will be held at Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Shamokin. Burial will be in Ash Grove Cemetery, Paxinos.
