Althea came from Petersburg, Michigan, after attending Virginia Farrell School of Cosmetology in Toledo, Ohio, to reside in Plymouth. She owned her own business in Plymouth since the age of 20, first in the city and then in her residence of 42 years on Penniman Avenue.

Althea left the beauty business for a short while in the 1940's during World War II to become a Rosie the Riveter at the Phoenix Mill Factory. The County of Wayne, Michigan, gave her a resolution honoring Althea for her hard work and dedication as a worker at the Phoenix Mill Village Industry Factory; the first factory where only women worked. She was also a charter member of the Phoenix Mill Women's Museum.

Althea volunteered her services at the Plymouth Historical Museum, and was deeply involved with the Plymouth Elks (BPOE #1780) and the Vivians Club since the 1950's. She had twice been voted Vivian of the Year, and had retired as Vice President of the club this year, due to ill health.

Althea was devoted to customers and friends. When in good health, she was always on call at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home to do the hair of a deceased friend or relative. Althea was also a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She took care of her late husband, Harry, at home for 4 ½ years after his paralytic stroke. Always strong, she never complained and always managed to make several jokes along the way.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Taylor, and her granddaughter, Candy.
