Lived most all of her life in Dardanelle, Arkansas. In her early life,
she lived with the Robert Pierce family of Dardanelle, Arkansas. She and
her sister, Mary Jane Scoles, left home after their mother remarried
because her new husband, Herman Ensign, was so mean to them. Lorene
worked for the Robert Pierce family as a housekeeper, nanny, etc.

Member of the Dardanelle United Methodist Church. She never married.

She claimed to be born in Vandalia, Ill., but the 1910 Yell County
Arkansas census lists her as being born in Tenn. The 1900 Census of
Chester County Tenn., lists the family in the Henderson area of Chester
County, but because of her late birthday she was not listed. It is likely
that the family went from Tenn. to Ark. in 1901 or 1902.

Lorene's obituary states that she was born Oct 24, 1902, but her memory is
probably faulty, because her younger brother was born in March, 1903.
