Union Church 1871-1989 (North Union Cemetery)
"Reverend W. H. Williams of the Christian Church first conducted religious services in Jackson Township at the home of Samuel Wolverton. In 1878 or 1879 Mr. and Mrs. Wolverton donated a lot, and built a house on their farm for church purposes. Reverend Williams, the first pastor, continued his services until 1887, when he was succeeded by Ezekiel Wright. Several years later the society was discontinued. The largest membership was twenty-five. Samuel, Caleb, and Isaac Wolverton and their families were all members of this church. The house was named Union, but three religious denominations used it. It is still standing and is used only for funerals."

"Isaac Wolverton, well known farmer of southeastern Parke county, died at the home at Goodin's Corner, Thursday night after an illness of almost two years of dropsy and complications, age 69 years, 5 months and 12 days. The deceased is survived by the widow, three sons and three daughters - Loveall of Clinton; Jack and Ross of Parke county; Mrs. Mack Moss of Parke county; Mrs. Benj. Hall of Brazil and Mrs. Robert Corrie of Terre Haute. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two brothers, Ben of Carbon and Charlez [sic] Wolverton, of Brazil. The funeral services were held at the North Union church at 11 o'clock Sunday morning, Rev. Williams of Brazil, officiating. Interment in North Union cemetery."

"AGED WOMAN DIES
Mrs. Susan Martha Wolverton, an aged resident of Van Buren township, died Thursday afternoon at the home of a son, Loveall Wolverton, east of Carbon, after an extended illness of complications, at the age of 81 years.
Mrs. Wolverton is survived by three daughters, Mrs. May Corrie of Brazil, Mrs. Florence Moss of Carbon and Mrs. Zenia Fernsell of Center Point; two sons, Loveall of Carbon and Ross of Terre Haute; 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren."
