"MAX"'S OBITUARY
U.S. Veteran
Pryor, John "Max", passed away, Monday, July 8, 2019.

Beloved husband of Carolyn A. Pryor (nee Patterson); dearest father of Tina (Shane) Matzen and Toni (Alejandro) Alvarez; dear grandfather of Jack and Ross Matzen and Marcos, Jade and Ava Alvarez; brother of Jim (Patricia) Pryor, Linda "Pete" Dinkins and Tim (Carol) Pryor; brother-in-law of Elsie Yates, Warren, Donald (Marilyn) and Marvin (Judy) Patterson; nephew of Susie Pryor; our dear uncle, cousin and friend of many.

Max was born March 2, 1942 in Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of Fred and Lucille Pryor who both proceeded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of Tuscumbia, MO and Miller County until relocating to Wildwood, Missouri in 2004. The majority of his career was spent working in the wood product industry. For eighteen years, he was President and owner of Pryor Novelty Company, a multi-generational family-owned manufacturing business of aromatic cedar wood souvenirs. He was an active member and past president of the Missouri Forest Products Association, as well as successful in a wide variety of entrepreneurial business ventures throughout his lifetime.

He enjoyed many hobbies, such as fishing, hunting, woodworking, cooking, grilling, and travel. His greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was his 57-year marriage to his "girlfriend" Carolyn, being a trusted advisor to his daughters and sons-in-law, and being an active supporter in the lives of his five grandchildren.

Max was drafted into the US Army and served with distinction from 1966-68 during the height of the Vietnam War including the infamous Tet Offensive. For his service, he was awarded two Bronze Stars for valor, three Purple Hearts, and a Combat Infantryman Badge. Later in life, he enjoyed reuniting with his "Band of Brothers" with whom he served in the C Troop, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment (Dragoons), 1st Armored Division, Task Force Oregon and Americal Division.

He was a powerful influence in the lives of many friends and family members. He leaves behind a legacy of helping fellow veterans understand the benefits they've earned and assisting them with the Veterans Administration process.
