Carol Ruth (Smith) Pagaran, formerly of Port Huron, passed from this life on May 13, 2013 at the home of her daughter, Kathleen, in California. She was 83 years old.

Carol was born to Port Huron natives, Stanley Guy Smith and Myrtle Louise Thomas, on March 3, 1930 and resided in Port Huron throughout her childhood and young adulthood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton L. Leonard, her parents, her only sibling, Glenn H. Smith and 4 of her 11 children, Kirk, Matthew, Christine and Timothy Leonard.

Upon the death of her husband, Alton, in 1964, Carol was left to raise their many children as a single mother. She moved her family to Kentucky where she attended Western Kentucky University and nursing school. She later moved to Alaska where she resided for 12 years and married William M. Pagaran. They moved to Washington State and, upon his death, she retired to Missouri. In 2011 her daughter, Kathleen, moved her to California to provide for her care in her declining years.

Carol is survived by 7 of her children, Terry, Garth, Kathleen, Marc, Paul, Carla and Glenn and their respective spouses, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews. She is missed by all who loved her.

In accordance with her wishes, her ashes were scattered over the waters of Michigan, on some of the graves of those she loved and in the Pacific Ocean, near a place that she loved to be.
