"James R. Opp, 75, of 166 Mt. Equity Rd., Pennsdale, died Monday, February 19, 2001 at home.

He and his wife, the former Arlene Reaser, would have observed their 50th wedding anniversary on April 28th.

Jim was born on November 2, 1925, in Muncy Creek Twp., the son of Howard C. and Ione Buck Opp. He was a 1943 graduate of the former Muncy Creek High School.

Jim owned and operated J. R. Opp Co. in Muncy Creek Twp. for 27 years, retiring in 1985.

Currently he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Muncy, where he served as Trustee and on the committee for Missions. He was a former member of the Clarkstown Methodist Church for 38 years, where he served on the Administrative Council for many years and was Chairman for several years. He and his wife served in work camps for the United Methodist Church in the U.S., Uruguay and Sierra Leone. He was leader for one work camp at McCurdy School in New Mexico. He served one year on the Board of Work Camps for the United Methodist Church, and also participated at a work camp in Germany for Global Outreach, NY.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the 69th Infantry in the European Theater.

He was on the Board of Directors at Muncy Bank & Trust Co. for 25 years, having just received a plaque this week honoring him for his years of service.

He was a 50-year member of the Roland Ritter Post #268 American Legion, a life member of the N.R.A, a member of Gideon's International for many years and a member of the Tiadaghton Chapter of the S.A.R. In addition, he volunteered at the Son Light House, the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and Bridge Haven, a prison ministry.

Jim was a woodworker. Following retirement, he set up a workshop in his home and made crafts to give away. He especially enjoyed making crosses and music boxes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a niece, Roberta Mitchell of Ocean Grove, NJ and 2 nephews, Frank Reaser of Cedar Grove, NJ and Jame Reaser of Milton.

The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at his church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy. Officiating will be Rev. Michael R. Gardy, his pastor. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 a.m. Friday.

The family will provide the flowers, and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Frist United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, PA 17756.

Arrangements are being handled by Wallis-Grenoble's, 121 S. Main St., Muncy."
