Alda A. Rhodes, 88, of Sunbury, passed away on Wednesday evening, Sept. 8, 2010, at Manor Care, Sunbury. She was born July 14, 1922, in Danville, a daughter of the late Warren and Dorothy (Kline) Mutchler. On May 10, 1941, she married George C. Rhodes Sr. who preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1994. Alda was a 1940 graduate of Shamokin High School. She was a member of Ash Grove United Methodist Church, Paxinos, where she was a member of the United Methodist Missionary Society. Alda was an expert scrabble player and crossword puzzle solver. She loved to work and clean and was a good cook and baker. Alda’s family was her life and she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by five children and their spouses, Patricia and Warren Brubaker, Gregory and Cindy Rhodes, Sheree and Larry Snyder, all of RR Sunbury, Peggy and Terry Walker, of Northumberland, and George Jr. and Fran Rhodes, of Fairfax Station, Va.; 21 grandchildren, Reuben and Donald Brubaker, Amy Stuck, Peggy Ann Sanders, Jennifer Klinger, Marjorie Nelson, Bethanne Fatzinger, Richard Jr. and Jeffrey Bramhall, Charles and Keith Walker, George III, Joseph, Matthew, Christopher, Wesley, Amanda, and Daniel Rhodes, Molly Leshko, Dana Doebler, and Jolene Messimer; 42 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jean Owens, Florine Wertz, and Phyllis Moore; and one aunt, Evelyn Hackenburg. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Graham, Donald and Fred, two sisters, Joyce and Belva Mutchler, and one great-grandson, Ryan Brubaker. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, where the funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Barbara Welsh officiating. Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury."
