SELINSGROVE - John F. "Jack" Yeager, 82, of RR5 Selinsgrove died Saturday evening, May 7, 2005, at his home.

He was born Feb. 13, 1923, in Sunbury, a son of the late Alvin L. Yeager and Violet (Miller) Brungard. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Bessie A. McLawthorn. They were married in 1943.

He was a 1940 graduate of Sunbury High School and was class president. He attended the University of North Carolina and later the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated with a degree in botany.

Mr. Yeager served with the 1st Division (Big Red One) of the Marines during World War II on Guadalcanal and Tulagi.

He was employed as a foreman by Celotex Co., Sunbury, for more than 30 years.

He was a life member of the Selinsgrove Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Buffalo Valley Sportsmen's Association. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and the Snyder County Historical Society.

Mr. Yeager was a master gunsmith and for more than 50 years built muzzleloaders.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and traveled extensively on fishing trips to Canada and several western states.

He also collected antiques and enjoyed reading, playing pinochle and poker and thoroughbred racing.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Ralph "Hern" Blett of RR5 Selinsgrove; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Yeager of Shamokin Dam; five grandchildren, Kyle, Angela, Valerie, Gina and John Michael; five great-grandchildren; six sisters, June Lindner of Allentown, Shirley Goodling of Sunbury, Sonja Hassinger of Milton, Dolores Hane and Harriet Blank, both of Sunbury, and Linda Parker of Allentown; and four brothers, William Brungard of Northumberland, Oren "Skeet" Brungard of Reading, Ronald "Buddy" Yeager of Allentown and Richard Yeager of Sunbury.

He was preceded in death by one son, Michael; one daughter; and two sisters, Vera Brungard and Jacqueline Leitzel.

Visitors may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.

Burial will be held privately at a later date in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to SUN Home Hospice, P.O. Box 232, Northumberland, PA 17857.
