"Eldest son Milton Matthews, born in 1837, enlisted at age 26 on Dec. 22, 1863 as a private in Co. I 16th Artillery. He was mustered out of military service on Aug. 21, 1865 at Washington, D.C. Milton married Elizabeth A. Parket on Oct. 1, 1862. The 1915 New York State Census listed him as living at the Canoga Hotel. His mother’s 1920 obituary stated he was living in St. Louis."
