"Sr. Mary Faith, Pittsburg native, dies

Sr. Mary Faith, a Religious Sister of Mercy, died in Washington, Mo., on Friday May 9, at the age of 81.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday May 12. She was laid to rest with her fellow Sisters of Mercy in Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.

She was born on March 8, 1927, in Pittsburg, Kan., the daughter of the late Owen Albert Matney and his wife Frances Leona Matney. She recieved her education in Pittsburg, and in 1948 graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing in Ft. Scott as a registered nurse.

In February of 1949 she entered the Sisters of Mercy and in August of 1954 she took her final vows.

She graduated from St. Mary's College in Levenworth in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in nursing education degree [sic] and from St. Louis University with a master's degree in health in 1970.

Sr. Mary Faith received her training in Clinical Pastoral Education in Kokomo Ind. She served the Sisters of Mercy in Fredonia, Ft. Scott, and Independence; Elwood Ind.; New Orleans, la.; and had been in Washington Mo., since 1987. She is surviced by one sister Verna Pryor, four nieces, and two nephews and her fellow Sisters of Mercy.
