"John A. Peyser

YORK - Departing on the evening of January 14th 2019 to rejoin his beloved wife, John A. Peyser, 102, of York, PA succumbed to pneumonia after a short hospitalization.

John was born in Long Island City, NY on the 11th of June 1916 to Herman and Mabel Peyser. At the age of fifteen he embarked on that triple crown of the Greatest Generation: youthful employment to aid the family during the depression years, service in the Marine Corps during WWII, then joining with the legion of average young men and women to build the modern American middle class.

John married Kathleen Long in 1941 and moved to Doylestown, PA where they lived for over 60 years before moving to York. The cople had two children: John G. Peyser of York, and Kathleen Peyser Hubb, formerly of Yrok and currently residing in Chincoteague, VA. The generations have produced 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Retiring after his career as a production manager for both Westinghouse and General Electric, John dedicated himself to Kathleen's late blooming art career. He handcrafted precision frames on a recreation room ping pong table for every one of her bright watercolors. The team went on to sell a remarkable 519 paintings over 30 years. Kathleen preceded John in death in 2016, at the age of 98.

Often asked for the secret to his longevity, John would cite his lifelong habit of moderate exercise and a tall glass of warm water upon rising every morning.

A celebration of the lives of John and Kathleen will be held on Monday, February 18th at 1:45pm in the activities room of the Misericordia Nursing Facility, 998 S. Russell St. York, PA 17402.

"Kathleen L. Peyser
November 16, 1917 - May 29, 2016
York
With her hand held by her husband, John, Kathleen L. Peyser, 98, passed into eternal rest the afternoon of Sunday, May 29, 2016 at the Misericordia Nursing Home of York.

The daughter of Lillie Funderburk and John Long, Kathleen was born in Jacksonville, Florida on November 16, 1917. Later, her family moved to New York City where she was to meet her husband, John A. Peyser. Theirs was a marriage to last 75 years.

She was a devoted mother and community volunteer during a longtime residence in Doylestown, PA when she came to enjoy watercolor painting. It was a hobby that was to grow. Although largely self-taught, Kathleen developed a cheerful style that brought a bright illumination to all her subjects. And over her career of 25 years, she sold over 500 paintings of floral stills and Bucks County scenes.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John G. Peyser and his wife Melissa of York, PA; a daughter, Kathleen M. Hubb and her husband, Alex of Chincoteague; VA, 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A celebration in honor of Kathleen's life will be held at a time convenient to the family. The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., York, is entrusted with arrangements.
