Mail carrier received Purple Heart in WW II
Paul R. Wolverton, 90, of 21 Grotto Drive, Danville, where he had resided since August 2000, and formerly of 514 E. Front St., Danville, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, of complications resulting from a fall at his home. He was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Danville, the son of the late Robert Boyd and Flora E. Kashner Wolverton.
He was a graduate of Danville High School. As a private in the United States Army, he served during World War II in the Philippines and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Wolverton was employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in Danville Borough for 35 years. After his retirement, he was a self-employed income tax preparer. Mr. Wolverton also served as the director of Montour County Veterans Affairs for a few years. A member of Shiloh United Church of Christ, he served faithfully as a Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and on the Consistory. Mr. Wolverton was the church liaison to the Boy Scout Troop that met at the church. His memberships also included the Danville American Legion, the Danville VFW, Friendship Fire Company, the Moose Lodge and the Danville Lions Club.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with his family. He was loved very much by all of them and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Miriam M. "Mim" Litz Wolverton, whom he married on Dec. 25, 1941. Surviving are two sons: Raymond B. Wolverton and his wife, Carolyn P., of Denver, Pa.; and Paul R. Wolverton and his wife, Margie, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; also three granddaughters: Jennifer Wisner and her husband, Todd, of Vienna, Va.; Joanna Harper and her husband, Thomas, of Greensburg; and Erica Wolverton of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and one great-grandson, Raymond D. Harper. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert S. Wolverton in 2011; and two sisters: Edna VanHorn in 2001 and Mary Krum in 2010.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Paul's life, which will be held on Saturday, June 23, at noon at Shiloh United Church of Christ, 500 Bloom Road, Danville, with the Rev. Mary B. Schmotzer officiating. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be private in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shiloh UCC Building Improvement Fund at the above address.

Miriam Madeline "Mim" Wolverton, 91, of 21 Grotto Drive, Danville, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at Emmanuel Nursing Center at Maria Joseph Manor in Danville. She was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Lock Haven, the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Leotta M. Herman Litz.
Miriam graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1939. She was employed as an Occupational Therapist Aide at Danville State Hospital, retiring in 1984. Prior to this she was employed at Welliver's Hardware and later at George's Florist. During her retirement, she helped with her husband's income tax service on Front Street.
She was married for 70 years to Paul R. Wolverton, who preceded her in death on June 7, 2012. They were married Dec. 25, 1941, at Shiloh U.C.C. in Danville. Mrs. Wolverton was a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ, where she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher for many years and served on numerous committees in the church. She also served as secretary-treasurer for the Central Pa. Synod of the United Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons: Raymond B. Wolverton and his wife, Carolyn, of Denver; and Paul R. Wolverton and his wife, Margie, of Fallings Waters, W.Va. Also surviving are three granddaughters: Jennifer Wisner of Vienna, Va.; Joanna Harper and her husband, Thomas, of Greensburg; and Erica Wolverton of Martinsburg, W.Va.: a great-grandson, Raymond D. Harper; a brother, Louis H. (Sonny) Litz, of Montoursville; and a sister, Mary Lou Welliver of Danville.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph E. Litz Jr.; and two sisters: Jean E. Litz and Kathleen L. Ammerman.
