World War II US Army Air Corps Veteran. In November 1942, he enlisted in the Air Service Reserve and was called to duty February 2, 1943. On May 23, 1944 at Moore Field, Mission, Texas, he received his wings and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Force. While practicing combat tactics in a P-47, Thunderbolt fighter plane, he failed to come out of a power dive and was killed instantly in the crash.
