Harvey Truman "Larry" Larimore was born in Plainville, Illinois and lived on a farm. He and his mother, Leona Tooley Larimore left the farm and moved to LaGrange, Illinois, where she became a teacher and then principal. Larry graduated from Lyons Township High School in 1927. His yearbook description: "Remember that brilliant football tackle who made such a hit with the girls? Remember his Ford with the French horn? Larry has a million dollar funny bone and is always in shape to produce a laugh." He attended Wabash College and Purdue University, where he played football and majored in engineering.
Larry was adventurous: he worked as a rickshaw driver at the Chicago World's Fair and lifeguard on Miami Beach. He was an experimental engineer for Borg Warner, 1934-37; chief engineer and inventor for Kalva Vender, 1937-1942. Then he joined the army during WWII and served as a captain in the ordinance department in Austria, 1942-46. On leave in 1944, he married Martha Lou Smith, a childhood friend from Adams County, in a military wedding at Camp Maxey, Texas.
After the war, they settled in LaGrange, Illinois and Larry resumed work as president of Kalva Vender. In 1949-52 he was assistant vice president of Mills Industries. Larry and Martha had three children in LaGrange: Linda Larimore Garver, 1946; Susan Larimore Stowe, 1948; John Michael "Jack" Larimore, 1950. Larry also owned a 5 gaited show horse, Susannah, at this time. His grandfather,Isaac Larimore had raised and bred Clydesdales in Plainville, Illinois, and the interest in horses continued throughout his life. A great family memory was attending the International Horse Show in Chicago every year.
In 1952 Larry was hired as president at Fox Electric Supply, which required a move to Elgin, Illinois. He was active in the Elks Club, president of Shrine Club, and a Rotarian. In about 1960 he opened his own business, Larimore Electric Supply. He became ill in 1962, sold his business, and the family moved to Northport, Michigan, where they owned a cherry farm. Larry died in 1964 at the age of 53.
