Edna Festine Wolverton Lacy
Edna Festine Wolverton Lacy born on December 7, 1905 in Bedford Iowa was one of three children of Howard and Mabel Spencer Wolverton. Edna was born and raised on a farm. She spent her life working in banking in Topeka and Texas, and then in the Treasurer's Office here in Taylor County. Some of my favorite stories are from her time in Texas.
The most important thing in life for Edna was her family. She moved back to Bedford to care for her ailing parents.
Her daughter Lois was her pride and joy, as well as her grandchildren, Roberto, Betsy, Cristina, and Dianna and their children. She always looked forward with anticipation to the Sunday phone calls with Lois, though she wished she could actually be with her.
In her younger days she visited Lois' family in Mexico often and she spoke of those visits with great joy of all the things she experienced, but more importantly the fond memories of spending time with her grandchildren. This American grandmother with blonde hair, blue eyes arid dimples was the pride of her grandchildren. She was a spoiler. She was quiet and generous, she treated them with love and care and patience.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Mabel Spencer Wolverton and sister Violet Morgan.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter Lois and husband Roberto. Her grandchildren, Roberto, his wife Fana and their children Roberto and Fana; Betsy Parra and her husband Forge, and their children Forge, Miguel, Gonzalo, Cristina, Guilerrmo and Alejandra; Cristina Hohn and her husband Dennis and their children, Monika, Emilie and Jessica; Dianna Berron and her husband Reuben and their children, Pablo, Andres, and Alejandro. She will also be missed by her brother, Paul Wolverton and his wife Doris, their daughter Dianne Baker and family, and sister Lucille Wetmore and her husband Bud
Edna was a beautiful woman both inside and out. Her heart was filled with gold, always caring for someone else, always asking how someone else was doing, before she would allow you to ask about her. Edna loved her yard and garden, the yard was like walking into the forest with trees and plants sheltering you from the street. You could see squirrels and birds of all types finding habitation in her personal forest. People would come from miles around to see that beautiful magnolia tree in bloom. Edna was a member of the Fort Nightly Club, a 50-year member of Eastern Star, and a member and elder of the United Christian Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed golfing as long as she was able. Let us be thankful for Edna's life was a gift, she lived with quiet dignity, grace and love, and touched our lives and helped all of us to share love with others.
Edna entered into rest on Friday, January 23, 1998 at the Bedford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were provided by Novinger Taylor Funeral Home on Monday, January 26, 1998. She was buried at Fairview Cemetery.
