Delbert L. Kirk, 75, of Kearney, died Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Mt. Carmel Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. The Reverend Duane Duley will officiate. Interment will be in the Kearney Cemetery. O'Brien Straatman Redinger Funeral Home is in
charge of the arrangements.

Delbert Lowell Kirk was born on July 10, 1942 in Ansley, Nebraska to Charles D. and Arlene M. (Hamilton) Kirk. He grew up in Ansley and graduated from Ansley High School in 1961. Following high school, he entered the National Guard.

Delbert was united in marriage to Roberta Watson on May 19, 1972 at Shelton Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Shelton and Delbert worked at Eaton Corp. They moved to Kearney in 1979 and he continued to work for Eaton until his retirement after 25 plus years.

Delbert loved being in the outdoors. He enjoyed mowing his yard, gardening, fishing, camping and general tinkering. He was also an avid sports fan, especially the Lakers, Royals and Huskers. Delbert always had a soft spot for children and could always be found with a smile on his face.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Kirk of Kearney; his children, Lindsay Anderson of Cheyenne, WY, Sean Kirk and wife Julia of Kearney, Sonja Welsh and husband Darrin of Kearney, Shaila Hisey and husband Brian of Kearney and Shane Kirk and wife Heather of Kearney; eight grandchildren, Rebecca, Jacob, Carley, Dakota, Jasmine, Blake, Ryan and Kaleb; four great grandchildren, Avery, Bryson, Knox and Easton; as well as his brothers and sisters.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Shannon Kirk; and several siblings.
