John Howard Kerk
April 11, 1926 - March 26, 2009
John Howard Kerk passed away on Thursday March 26, 2009 at his Grand Junction, CO home after a long brave battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving friends and family, he was 82. John was born in Lodgepole, NE from the union of Howard and Victoria Kerk. After spending his childhood in Lodgepole he volunteered to join the U.S. NAVY where he was a Second Class Gunners Mate serving in both World War II and The Korean War. He later met Alice Nelsen and they were married on June 25, 1950. John was the kind of man that moved mountains with a com-a-long. He had many interests and hobbies such as being a pilot, tinkering and inventing, boating in Lake Powell, fishing, and being a loving father. John started and successfully ran multiple businesses including two trucking companies, manufacturing and a boat delivery service. He was well known for his dry but comical sense of humor. John leaves behind his wife, Alice Kerk; two sons, Arlo Kerk of Grand Junction, CO and Jay (Julie) Kerk of Arvada CO; two daughters, Angella Clark of Kiowa, CO and Lynda (Ed) Matson of Grand Junction, CO; grandchildren, Aundrea, Alden, Cameron, Krista, Chelsea, Joshua, Jenna, Austin, and Madison; great grandchildren, Adam and Mason. A visitation will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Martin Mortuary, Grand Junction, CO. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 2754 Compass Dr # 377, Grand Junction, CO. Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of Martin Mortuary.
