W. P. WOLVERTON
Walter Perry Wolverton was born on December 14, 1876, on a farm near LeRoy, Iowa, and passed away at his home in Derby, Iowa, at the age of 62 years and 9 months.
He lived his entire life in Clarke and Lucas counties.
On June 6, 1898, he was united in marriage to Anna A. Johnson, of Derby, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Mona Hipsley, of Derby; Thurman Wolverton, of Cambria; and Mrs. Pauline Chase, of Guthrie Center, Iowa.
In 1904 he united with the Presbyterian church of Derby, Iowa, and lived true to that faith until his death. He was a great reader of the Bible. He was a lover of his home and family and above all his grandchildren. It can truly be said that all who knew him could be called his friends.
He was always interested in the up-building of the community. He was a member of the Derby Fair board, treasurer of the school board, was township clerk, and a member of the telephone company.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife, three children and four grandchildren; one brother, Kay Wolverton, one sister, Dora Wyatt, both of Derby, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the home at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16. The officiating minister was Rev. DeWitt White, of Des Moines. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of James Newsome, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Newsome and Mrs. Bonnie Mitchell, accompanied by Mrs. Jack Bevard. Interment was in the Derby cemetery.
