Richard Nelson Mooney, 62, died at 12:15 PM Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, in his West Lafayette home. Born Sept. 27, 1935, at Peru, IN, he had been a resident of West Lafayette since 1966. His marriage to Virginia Ann Jackson was on June 30, 1957, at Denver, IN, and she survives.

Mr. Mooney was a West Lafayette police officer from 1966 until retiring in 1990. Before that, he was a fireman with the North Kansas City Fire Department. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Teresa M. (Mrs. James) Williams of Russiaville; two sons, Clifford N. Mooney and Michael T. Mooney, both of Lafayette; five brothers, Thomas Mooney of Arvada, CO, Charles Mooney, Daniel Mooney, Larry Mooney, and Clyde R. Mooney all of Peru, IN; and ten grandchildren. Preceded in death by a sister, Janice Radel.
