"Donald K. Sovern
Donald K. "Don" Sovern, 62, Medora, died at 10:25 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour. Mr. Sovern was a member of Brownstown United Methodist Church and served with the National Guard from 1966 to 1970. He retired as a supervisor after 32 years working at Cummins Engine in Columbus. He later worked at REMC and was a school bus driver for the Brownstown school system and enjoyed driving various teams to different sporting events. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 13, Free and Accepted Masons, in Brownstown. He was a member of the Shriner's Scottish Rite. He enjoyed woodworking and riding his horses. He was a rider in the founding group that became the Jackson County Sheriff's Posse. Born Aug. 24, 1945, in Lawrence County, he was a son of Helen Sovern, who survives in Brownstown, and the late Jesse Sovern. On Aug. 20, 1966, at Terre Haute, he married Susan Carol "Sue" Jackson, who survives. Other survivors include two children, C. Bradley Sovern, Medora, and Beth Ann (Tony) Sevakis, Lake Orion, Mich; a brother, Mike (Kim) Sovern, Avon; a sister, Tammie Freeman, Brownstown; and six grandchildren, Derek, Dustin and Jamie Sovern and Tanner, Ethan and Leyton Sevakis. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marlin and Leona Jackson. The Rev. Michaelene Haysler and Rev. Brian Buterbaugh will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brownstown United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home, Brownstown. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with military graveside rites will be at Fairview Cemetery, Lawrence County. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Schneck Medical Center or the Youth Ministries Program at Brownstown United Methodist Church."
