"Mrs. Alice I. Young
Mrs. Alice Irwin Young, 42, of 737 Tiffany Drive, Gaithersburg, died Friday, Aug. 3, at Suburban Hospital, Bethesda. She was the wife of David A. Young.

She was born June 7, 1937, a daughter of Mrs. James F. Irwin, Bala-Cynwyd, Pa., and the late James Irwin.

Mrs, Young was a physical education teacher at Holton-Arms School, Bethesda. She was named to the United States Lacrosse Team in 1958 and 1959. She also wasnamed to the All-College and Philadelphia No. 1 Field Hockey Team in 1958.

Mrs. Young played for the Washington Field Hockey Association and the Southeast I Field Hockey Team from 1959-64.

She initiated the lacrosse program at Holton-Arms and coached the girls team there.

In 1963, she coached the American University hockey team. She was a director of the Metropolitan Field Hockey and Tennis Day Camp. In addition, she was a sectional umpire for the U.S. Field Hockey Association, qualifying her to officiate at international field hockey competitions.

Mrs. Young graduated from Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pa., in 1959, where she was vice-president of student government association and president of Tau Sigma Gamma Sorority. She was listed in "Who's Who in American Colleges in 1959."

Surviving, besides her husband and mother, are two daughters, Tamara Young and Ellen Young, both at home; two sons, David Young and Andrew Young, also both at home; and one sister, Ruth I. Weidner, West Chester, Pa.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Monday, Aug. 6, at Christ Church, Rockville. Graveside services will be held at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Church of St. Asaph, Bala-Cynwyd, Pa.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Box 30004, Washington, D.C. 20014."
