Brooks, Delores Onalee Josephson Irvin - Delores O. Brooks, 78, of Shenandaoh, Iowa,and formerly of Farragut, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Shenandoah.
Delores Onalee Josephson Brooks, the daughter of George E. and Frances I. (Roberts) Irvin, was born July 3, 1924, at Farragut, Iowa, and passed away June 1, 2003, in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Delores grew up in the Farragut, College Springs, Clarinda, and Shenandoah, Iowa areas, graduating from Shenandoah High School in 1942. On December 31, 1943, Delores was united in marriage to Jack Josephson, and to this union, Julie and Jerry were born. They were married for nearly 25 years until Jack’s death on September 4, 1967. Later, she was united in marriage to Dale Brooks on December 19, 1972 and they were married for nearly 25 years until Dale’s death on November 29, 1996.
As a young woman, Delores started her working career as a secretary at the Dekalb Plant in Shenandoah. She then worked for many years as a stenographer at Earl May Seed and Nursery Company and as office manager at the district office for Standard Oil and at Falk and Norris Law Firm.
Over the years Delores was a member of several organizations: First Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as president several times, even serving as their youngest president, Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Farragut Garden Club and Antique Study Club. She loved to read, go to flea markets and enjoyed collecting items pertaining to butterflies. Delores was very close to her mother, spending much of her spare time with her through the years. Her family was very important to her as she did her best to bring them together on special occasions.
Preceeding Delores in death were her parents; husband, Jack Josephson; husband, Dale Brooks; brothers, Gordon and Lowell Irvin; and step grandson, Brooks Bateman.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Dr. Joe Denhart of Shenandoah; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Mary Jo Josephson of Shenandoah; step children, Margo Bateman and husband, Don, of Farragut, and Gail Freeman and husband, Jim, of Birmingham, Alabama. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jason Denhart and wife, Fara, of Avon, Colorado, Joshua Denhart and wife, Sarah, of West Des Moines, Iowa, Emily Josephson of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Elliott Josephson, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Elyce Josephson, of Shenandoah; step grandchildren, Callen Frenzel and husband, Kevin, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Carmen Clark and husband, Randy, of Clarinda, Brooke Freeman of Atlanta, Georgia and Darren Freeman and wife, Jessa, of Birmingham; and three step great grandchildren. Survivors also include brothers, Chuck Irvin and wife, Joan, Dick Irvin and wife, JoDayle, Larry Irvin and friend Sara Powley, all of Shenandoah, and Mike Irvin and wife, Connie, of Coin, Iowa; plus other relatives and friends.
