Howard was a long time resident of Columbia, having settled there in 1957 in a home of which he built. There he and his wife raised their daughter, Pamela, who preceded both her parents in death in 1994. His wife of 69 years, Dorothy, passed away in 2012.

Howard and Dorothy lived in their Columbia home until 2009 when they moved to Lancaster, California to be near family members.

He worked for the Pacific Telephone Co. in Sonora for 33 years. He recalled an incident in the 1960s when some boys shot out the lines in several places over a long stretch, requiring his work to repair lines throughout the night into the day.

His memberships were many including Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3154, Columbia Volunteer Firefighter Auxiliary, Aeronautics Club and Moose Lodge Post 2183.

Quoting his obituary in the Union Democrat newspaper, "He enjoyed bowling and was one of the first in line for Sonora's first bowling alley, according to family members. After retirement, he traveled extensively and enjoyed working on his family genealogy."

He passed away at his home in Lancaster.

He was survived by three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Dorothy "Elaine", nee Ragsdale, Hutchinson passed away at the Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, Los Angeles County, at the age of 89.

Born in Moberly, Missouri, and raised on Franklin Street at South Sugar Creek, in Randolph County, Missouri, Elaine moved to Columbia with her husband and daughter, Pamela, in the early 1950s. There she stayed until slightly more than two years before her death when she and her husband moved to Lancaster.

Elaine's memberships included the Stockton Order of the Eastern Star and Tuolumne County Aeronautics Club, the Columbia Ladies Fire Auxiliary since 1963 and the Turlock and Sonora fire department auxiliaries, where she enjoyed playing the kazoo.

Elaine was employed at Bell Accounting and Hales and Symons in Sonora, and her hobbies included collecting cookbooks and maps.

Survivors included her husband of 69 years, Howard Hutchinson, of Lancaster; three grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her only child, Pamela, in 1994; her parents, Dorothy V. Holman Ragsdale in 1974, and Edgar Harold Ragsdale in 1981; and her brother, Edgar H. Ragsdale, Jr. in 1989.

A memorial service was held at the Columbia Presbyterian Church of the 49ers.

Elaine's father worked as a locomotive fireman for the steam railroad.

Her paternal grandparents were Charles R Ragsdale and Annie Kate Grant. Her maternal grandparents were Robert and Amelia B. Holman.

Her great-grandparents were Julius Charles Ragsdale and Mary C Reade Garshweiller.

Her ancestors mentioned above were from Randolph County, Missouri. The couple who settled in Randolph County from Boone County, Kentucky were her great-great-grandparents, Charles A Ragsdale and Cassandra Crisler.

Her Ragsdale lineage in the United States goes back to her seven-greats-grandparents, Godfrey Ragsdale and Mary Cookney from East Bridgeford, Nottinghamshire, England. The couple settled in Henrico County, Virginia, in the early 1600s.

In England, her Ragsdale lineage goes back to her sixteen-great-grandfather, Robert Ragsdale, who was born in 1418 in England.

She also descends from her 23-great-grandfather, William DeBray, who was born in Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire, England in 1178.
