Lois Farnsworth Kirkpatrick Hull, 87, of Canyon died Thursday, May 17, 2014.
Memorial celebration of life services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church of Canyon with Andy Blair, pastor, officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Private graveside services were already held, Mrs. Hull was buried next to her husband, Truett G. Hull, Jr., in Dreamland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.
Lois K. Hull passed away on May 17, 2014, while peacefully listening to opera. She was born Sept. 22, 1926, in San Antonio to Oran Gould and Lois Farnsworth Kirkpatrick. She attended First Presbyterian Church and graduated from Jefferson High School.
Lois graduated from The University of Texas, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. It was at University that Lois met the love of her life, Truett Gibson Hull Jr., of Amarillo. They were married on Feb. 5, 1949, and lived in Amarillo and Canyon with their family. In 1959, the family lived in Austin while Truett earned his law degree and then returned to Canyon.
Truett died on Sept. 10, 1964. Canyon was home, so Lois remained there to raise her four children. She was grateful for the support of the whole community during this time.
Lois was a homemaker, mother and a lifelong contributor to many groups in the community. She was an elder at First Presbyterian Church and a member of the choir. She understood Barrow's quote about a life of books. Learning was important to her and she supported Canyon Area Library and Fine Arts Department at West Texas A&M University throughout her life. Her donations helped to create the James Kimmerling Design Studio and the Jerry Williams Acting Studio, as well as the Margaret and Bill Moore green room in Branding Iron Theatre. She supported the symphony, ballet and the opera in Texas, New Mexico and New York and enjoyed the vocal artistry of Susan Graham, an opera star from New Mexico and Texas.
Lois was also a supporter of Panhandle Heritage Foundation for many years. She acted and sang in the musical drama TEXAS as Aunt Anna, which gave her great joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oran and Lois; and her husband, Truett.
Survivors include three sons, Andrew O. Hull and wife Melody, Christopher K. Hull and wife Karen and Jonathan H. Hull and wife Terry; a daughter, Susan H. Allen and husband Jimmy; 10 grandchildren, Madeline Hull, Oran Hull, Rebecca Hull, Rachel Hull, Patrick Hull, Christopher Hull and wife Caroline, Sterling Allen and wife Kathryn, Cameron Allen and wife Yvonne, Hillary Hull and Charlotte Hull; three great-granddaughters, Fiona R. Hull, Maeve G. Hull, and Emma L. Allen; two brothers, Oran G. Kirkpatrick and wife Maureen and John O. Kirkpatrick; nephews and nieces; and grandnephews and grandnieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, in care of Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Foundation, 1600 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106; or Southwest Friends of Art.
