Lawrence Thompson 93, of Naples, FL passed away peacefully on January 10, 2021. Larry was born on December 1, 1927 in Caswell County, NC the youngest of five children of the late Azariah Graves Thompson and Lula Belle (Stephens) Thompson.

He is survived by his two children, Elizabeth (Betsy) T. Kelly and her husband John of Agoura Hills, CA and Thomas (Tom) G. Thompson and his wife Karen of Cranston, RI; four devoted grandchildren, Brian Kelly, his wife Olivia and their daughter, Margot, Sarah Kelly, Erik Thompson, Gretchen Thompson and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Howe Thompson who died in 2012 and his four siblings. Larry attended Wake Forest University and served two years in the Marine Corp before ultimately graduating from Virginia Tech in 1951 with a degree in Agronomy. Larry moved to the New York City area to begin his career in pharmaceuticals. He met Mary at 30 Rockefeller Plaza where they both worked and they married in 1956.

Larry raised his family in Monmouth County, NJ before moving to Manchester, VT in 1972 where he bought a small printing company. He renamed it Thompson, Inc. and owned and operated the business with Mary for 27 years specializing in printing, graphics, marketing and advertising. Larry was an active member of the community attending the Congregational Church and serving on the planning commission and zoning administration for the Village of Manchester. Larry also owned two public storage facilities: one in Manchester Center and the other in New Hampshire. His true passion was golf and he enjoyed many years as a member of the Dorset Field Club eventually serving as club president for a term. Larry also enjoyed serving as Vice President of the Vermont Golf Association.

Larry and Mary spent their later Vermont winter months in Bonita Springs, FL. In 2001, they moved there permanently and enjoyed the golf and social life at Pelican Landing. Besides golf, Larry was interested in gardening, landscaping, woodworking, home improvement projects and spending time with his children and grandchildren who have many fond memories of their visits to both Vermont and Florida. He will be remembered by his family as a fun and loving man with a sense of humor, adventure and optimism. He was never one to sit still for long and always looked for opportunities to engage others, share knowledge or teach a new skill.

Services will be held privately at a later date. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at the Dellwood Cemetery in Manchester Village, VT.

Those who wish may make a donation in Larry’s name to their favorite charity.
