NEWPORT - Joseph J. Klingman, 91, formerly of Newport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 13, 2011 at The Manor At Perry Village, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born on October 8, 1919 in Sunbury, PA and was the son of the late Leroy and Ruth (Kimble) Klingman.
He was a member of Hilltop Christian Church. He, and his family, owned and operated the former Newport Gas Co. from 1952 until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion and was a navy veteran of WWII. He was a former member of the Perry County Credit Bureau and had been a member of the Newport School Board. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home, wood working and working with his backhoe. He was a genuinely nice man who cared about the needs of others.
He was the widower of Estella A. Klingman, with whom he shared 59-1/2 years of marriage. He is survived by two sons, Joseph N. Klingman and wife, Marietta, and Jerrie N. Klingman and wife Susan all of Newport; three daughters, Ruth C. Hockenberry and husband, Anthony of Newport, Joyce A. Flickinger of Mechanicsburg and Linda K. Knapp and husband Mike of Dauphin; two brothers, Earl and Clinton Klingman of Sunbury and a sister-in-law, Marcella Ream of Selinsgrove; 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Hilltop Christian Church, 721 Hillcrest Drive, Newport. His Pastor, Rev. James Penica will officiate. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery. Friends may call at the Boyer Funeral Home, 101 W. Main Street, New Bloomfield, Monday evening, May 16, 2011, 7-9 PM and Tuesday, at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hilltop Christian Church, 721 Hillcrest Drive, Newport, PA 17053.
