Born the son of Lorenzo W. HOUSEL and Mina (FINCH) HOUSEL.

He was the second generation of his family to attend college at Yale. Graduating with the Class of 1929. He then attended the University of Iowa and obtained his Juris Doctorate in 1932. After being admitted to the bar, he became the third generation in his family to practice law in Humboldt, Iowa. William also served on a number of non-elected positions within the state government.

He married a gal from Keokuk, Iowa named Harriet Evelyn Hilpert on December 16, 1933 in Keokuk.

William with Harriet became the proud father of one daughter and in time, three grandsons.

Uncle Bill also played a steady and consistent role in the lives of three nephews left fatherless before their teen years.

William was a Mason and a member of the Congregational Church.

Appointed to the Iowa Liquor Control Commission in 1953 by then Governor Beardsley. Reappointed in 1955 for a term ending in June 1959 by then Governor Leo A. Hoegh.

Miss Hilpert, Mr Housel To Wed Here Today

At five o'clock this afternoon, the marriage of Miss Harriett E. Hilpert, daughter of Mrs. F.K. Gregg, and Mr. William P. Housel, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Housel of Humboldt, Iowa, wil be solemnized at the home of the bride, 1019 Concert street. An improvised altar with a background of white chrysanthemums and a pair of tall candelabra holding long white tapers has been arranged and the ceremony will take place before this. Rev. William W. Stodart, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian church, will be the officiating minister.

Miss Hilpert's brother, Mr. Frederic M. Hilpert of Houston, Texas, will give the bride in marriage. Miss Daisy Armentrout will be the bride's maid, and the groomsman will be Mr. Hugh Edwards of Humboldt.

Miss Hilpert has chosen a most attractive ensemble for her wedding. Her dress is fashioned with a top of egg shell crepe and skirt of lovely soft green wool. Her accessories are to be brown. Her dress is trimmed with silver buttons and she will wear costume jewelry, a silver bracelet and earrings, to match the buttons on her dress. She will carry a beautiful arm bouquet of Johanna Hill roses. When she leaves for her wedding journey, she will wear a coat of the same material as her green wool dress, the coat being trimmed with brown beaver lapin.

Miss Daisy Armentrout's costume is not only very becoming but will fit into the picture of this pretty winter wedding very charmingly. Her dress is a deep blue, ankle length model, with long sleeves cut with a high neck line in front and a "V" line at the back of the neck. She will wear costume jewelry, a gold bracelet and gold earrings, the gift of the bride. She will carry an arm bouquet of deep red roses.

A three course wedding dinner will be served after the marriage service. The bride's table will be decorated with a handsome wedding cake and flowers and lighted tapers. The other guests will be served at small tables.

Mr and Mrs. Housel expect to leave this evening for a wedding trip, but have not announced its destination. They will be at home after January 1, 1934, at Humboldt, Iowa.

Miss Hilpert is a girl of rare personal charm and beauty and is also a brilliant young woman. She attended Lindenwood college at St. Charles, Missouri, for a year after graduating from the Keokuk high school. Then she went to Iowa State university , from which she graduated. She was affiliated there with the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She is a member of the Keokuk branch of the American Association of Univeristy Women. She has been feted and entertained extensively the past few weeks.

Mr. William P. Housel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Housel of Humboldt, Iowa. He took his preparatory work at Loomis Preparatory school in Windsor, Connecticut, and received his B. A. degree from Yale in the class of 1929. He then attended and graduated from the College of Law at the Iowa State university . He is a member of the law fraternity, Gamma Eta Gamma. He has made admiring friends here when he has visited in Keokuk. He is associated with his father in the practive of law at Humboldt.

Out of town guests at the wedding were Mrs. L. W. Housel, mother of the groom, of Humboldt, Iowa; Mr. Frederic M. Hilpert, the bride's brother, of Houston, Texas; Mr. Hugh Edwards, Miss Winnifred Neilson and Mr Clark Lovrien of Humboldt; Mr. William Bawden of St. Louis; Miss Dorothy Sturtridge of Iowa City; Miss Lucia Schramm of Burlington; Miss Doris Schouten of COlumbia, Missouri, and Miss Frances Hogle of Waukon, Iowa, the last two named guests being Keokuk girls located away from here who returned for the wedding.
