"Everett Glenn Hanes
Glen Hanes, 89, of LaConner died March 7, 2007 in Mount Vernon.
Born August 26, 1917 in Nowata, OK, he was the son of Bill and Sadie Hanes. He was raised in Oklahoma, graduating from Cushing High School in 1935.
On February 29, 1940, he married Lotus K. Corber in Tulsa, OK.
Glenn served his country during World War II as a Bombadier/Navigator aboard a B26 bomber. He flew 19 missions on board "My Louisiana Baby" during the last 18 months of the war.
After the war, the family mived to Wilmington, CA, where he went to work for Shell Oil. Glenn was transferred up to the Anacortes refinery, so in June of 1955, the family move from Wilmington, CA to LaConner, WA where he raised his family and completed his 42 years of employment at Shell.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Julie Hanes of Bellingham; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Kent Gardner of Garden Valley, ID; two grandsons, William Hanes of Bellingham and Robert Hanes of Ferndale; three great-grandchildren, Trever, Tyler, and Travis hanes, all of Ferndale; and a large extended family that always got a warm welcome from Glenn in the Blake's Resort office.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lotus Hanes, a son, John Glenn Hanes; and a sister, Pearl Johnson.
Glenn was an avid fisherman, and many King Salmon from the Skagit found their way to his barbecue over the years. He was always there to lend a hand when needed, and was well liked by all the regulars on the river. He will be missed by anyone fortunate enough to have seen his smile, heard his laugh, and felt his warm welcoming handshake.
A private graveside service will be held at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon."

Mary was born in 1923 in Terre Haute Indiana. She was the fourth of 6 children. After World War II began she and her sister moved to Seattle to work in the building of airplanes and PT boats. When the war ended she continued to live in Seattle, and there in 1947 met LeRoy Blake. They were married in 1948 in Terre Haute Indiana. They lived in Indiana till 1955. From 1955-1959 they lived in the Saint Louis area where in addition to raising their 5 children Mary worked as a waitress. In November of 1959 they moved back again to the Seattle area. Mary worked as a waitress first at the Olympic Hotel then the Legend Room of the Bon Marche' and LeRoy started a business in home milk delivery. In 1968 the family moved to Tenino where they bought a farm and raised horses and cattle. In 1971 they started in the dairy business. In 1972 the Tenino farm was exchanged for a dairy farm in Rochester, WA.
In 1975 Mary and LeRoy left the farm and took up residence in Mt. Vernon where they purchased what was known as Phil's Boathouse on the North fork of the Skagit river. They renamed it, "Blakes Resort and Marina". In the early years it included a small restaurant where Mary became well known for her homemade pies. Her CB handle was "Apple Pie". They continued to manage the business for some years until LeRoy's health began to fail and their son Paul took over the business. But Mary continued to be active in the day to day operation of the resort until 3 weeks before her decease.
She was widowed in 1996 when her husband of 48 years, LeRoy passed. In 2003 she was remarried to Glenn Hanes of LaConner WA. She was widowed again in 2007 when Glenn preceded her in death. She lived alone in her own home until her passing on Sept. 18 at 18:18. She went to her Eternal reward without fear, knowing that she would spend eternity in the presence of the Lord. She will be missed by all of us who knew her.
