Bernie Anna Warren, 86, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 14, 2011.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Nancy Moore, pastor at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bernie Anna Hamman Warren was born July 25, 1924, on the family farm, 3 miles northwest of Dodson, to C.O. and Pearl Hamman. She was an only child and attended Dodson schools for all 12 years and graduated there, standing side by side with her sweetheart and future husband, Benny Elbert Warren. They were married Nov. 21, 1942, and remained partners for life.
Mrs. Warren attended Draughn's Business School at Wichita Falls. At the beginning of World War II, Mr. Warren joined the Merchant Marines, and later the U.S. Navy. Mrs. Warren followed him around from coast to coast until he went overseas.
She worked at Northwest Texas Hospital in the business office until he came home. She then lived on the farm at Dodson for 11 years and worked at the Production Credit Association in Wellington for five of those years. She was a housewife for several years, and then worked for the American Quarter Horse Journal for 10 years, and quit in 1974 to take care of her mother. She lived the rest of her life as a housewife and wonderful grandmother.
Among her loves in life, besides her family, were bowling, fishing, gardening and her dogs. Anna enjoyed playing the piano, accordion and keyboard. She also enjoyed gospel music. She was a member of the Yellow Rose Sams RV Club. She was deeply religious and her faith comforted her in her battle with lung cancer.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Benny Elbert Warren; a son, Lyndel Warren and wife Sue of Ransom Canyon; a daughter, Jana Lamkin and husband Mike of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Aaron Lamkin of Lewisville, Mandy Vitela and husband Fernando of Flower Mound, and Amy Quiroz and husband Greg and Amber Paige and husband Jamie, all of Kyle; three stepgrandchildren, Catherine Huckaby and husband Shea of Haslett, Daniel Mooney and wife Stephanie of White Deer and Rob Mooney of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and 13 great-grandchildren.
