"Jo Ann Hall was the first child of Otho and Bessie
(Woolverton) Holloway. She was born on June 1, 1933 and
lived on Woolverton Mountain, Conway County, Arkansas, on the
original farm of her great-grandfather , Elijah Aaron
Woolverton, until she was age 12. The family then moved to
Southeast Missouri where Jo Ann graduated from Risco High
School as valedictorian of her class.
She attended Freed-Hardeman College at Henderson,
Tennessee, for 2 years , taking a secretari l cours . After
college, she worked in Memphis, where she met her husband,
Charles Hall. The[y] were married in July 1955. Jo Ann
continued in secretarial work as she and her husband lived in
various places. In California they both worked at North
American Aviation (Rockwell) in the aerospace industry.
In 1967 they returned to Memphis where she became
secretary to the managing editor of the Memphis daily
newspaper, The Commercial Appeal. She also worked for a time
for a real estate attorney in Middle Tennessee. Most
recently she has been executive secretary at Dobbs Houses,
Inc. She corresponded with Royal Wolverton for many years
and has a great interest in history and genealogy. Foremost
in Jo Ann's life is her religious faith. She is Church of
Christ. Hobbies include gardening, travel, and photography .
Jo Ann and Charles Hall had 2 children, Jonathan Vance Hall,
born July 16, 1963, and a daughter , Abigail Hall (deceased),
born May 22, 1964. Son Jonathan majored in electronics
technology at Memphis State University.
Jo Ann and Charles lived at Bartlett, Tennessee, for many
years. In October 1994, they moved to Texas, and now make
their home at Georgetown, Texas. In Royal Wolverton' s book,
p. 63-65, she has written an excellent history or reflection
on her mother, Bessie Vance (Woolverton) Holloway. "
