"... Orlando, after a year or two, build a sort of a dormitory [for the
high school at Choctaw] that accommodated quite a few and that relieved
our congestion to a certain extent. The rate was six to eight dollars per
month, many on a credit, particularly for the last month or so." (William
Erwin Halbrook's "A School Man of the Ozarks", p63)

"At one time, Orlando had a general store and ""peddling wagon"". Later
he operated a heading mill and sawmill. The family lived on the VanBuren,
Conway County line. Some of the family attended elementary school at
Shotgun Ridge in Conway County." (Conway County - Our Land, Our Home, Our

Was with Winona & Walton Cannon at the time of her death. Buried: Old
Liberty Cemetary, Van Buren County, Arkansas near Morrilton, Arkansas

Additional information on grandchildren and great grandchildren in the
bulletin for her funeral service at the First United Methodist Church,
Morrilton, Arkansas, 9 JUL 1985, 2:00 p.m. Funeral was presided over by
Rev. Charles Casteel, The First United Methodist Church of Morrilton,
Arkansas and by Rev. Ben Jordan, Central United Methodist Church of
Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Myrtle Halbrook lived in Clinton, Arkansas for years after her children
left home. Later, due to difficulty moving around, she moved to
Morrilton, Arkansas, near her daughter, Orlean. Ill health brought her to
Morgantown, West Virginia to be with her daughter Winona. She died in
Morgantown, having lived outside of Arkansas only two months. She fell
getting out of bed and broke her hip. After an operation to repair the hip
she had a blood clot to the lungs and went into a coma from which she
never recovered.

She was married in her parents' home in Van Buren county, Arkansas. She
was born in rural Van Buren county, Arkansas.
